Poems - The Conductor (Added to Blog by Mitch)

The lesson was focused on poetry.  The group watched a conductor and his orchestra on You-tube and then using descriptive words had to write a poem.
A smart posh talented man
His slick hair is gelled back
His arms swinging in the air
He wears a midnight coloured suit
There's music coming from every direction
His lips are locked up and there's a lost key
He clings to his stick as he swings it fast in the air
He stands as straight as a rod
His curly mustache looks like curly spaghetti

Stange posh talented man beating his arms high in the air
Music flies into the sky as he conducts with his black stick
The music is as slow as an elephant
It makes me sleepy and drowsy
Flutes, violins and harps combining music, with a piano playing in the background
His long nose made me think of Pinoccio
The long curled mustache made me have a tingle in my body
He sounded professional
He was like a spider climbing up a web as a light flashed like lightning

Show - Not Tell

At present in writing  we are learning to show and not tell.  Telling is when you give the reader the information and showing is when the reader has to draw their own conclusion.

What do you think of our efforts?

Tell:  The morning was beautiful
Show:  The sun was reaching out to grab the bright blue sky.  It rose above the needle tips of the pointed white glistening mountains.  A white candy floss maker was pushing out puffy sugar clouds.  The warm breeze swept against my hot sweaty face.  Sopping wet grass swallowed my feet.  Whisper, whisper went the trees, they filled my head with sweet dreams and wishes.  The next door neighbour looked at me with a puzzled glare.

Tell: The hot drink was delicious
Show: As I gripped the burning cup in my icy hands a wafting smell of caramel  drifts me to sleep, like being pulled into another world..  A savoury smell drifts in the air.  I take a sip and a tingling sensation overcomes my body.
By Avi

As I squeeze my cup, the lovely smell enchants me as the white half arch soaks into the black ocean.  My cold lips beg me to drink the warm dark liquid.  I sit there still, hypnotised by the chocolate smell and the warm liquid oozing down my throat.  As my frostbitten fingers clench the scorching cup I begin to feel alive.

Our New Classroom

We are now five weeks into Term 4 and have settled into our new classroom and are loving the space.  We all had a few concerns before arriving up here, but it now seems as though we have been here forever.

Tipuranga

We are Tipuranga - this is what it means to us.
